Romney Glitter Bombed by Occupy in Eagan!
Uploaded by roberterickson1 on Feb 1, 2012 Mitt Romney Glitter Bombed Twice at Minnesota Campaign Stop EAGAN, MN -- GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney glitter bombed not once, but twice at a Minnesota campaign stop by two members of Occupy Minneapolis and the LGBT rights group the Glitterati. Nick Espinosa and Sam Richards yelled "Feel the rainbow" and "the 1% pays for hate, you're not welcome in our state!" as they showered Romney in rainbow colored glitter as he walked up to the stage, and again as he shook hands on his way out. Romney completed the speech with a formidable amount of glitter sparkling in his hair and another Occupy Minneapolis member Sam Richards added a second salvo of glitter just after Romney concluded his speech. "The struggle against inequality in all its forms unites the 99%. Just as we stand against economic inequality, we stand against the inequality faced by those us in the LGBT community." Added Ben Egerman, an organizer of the action. "We will not stand by as members of the richest 1% like Mitt Romney spend their millions to fund anti-gay hate. Minnesotans pride ourselves on being a tolerant and diverse state for all regardless of sexual orientation, and hateful politicians like Mitt Romney should expect a sparkly response anytime they bring their divisive rhetoric to our state." Espinosa said. Romney has consistently opposed LGBT equality, and avidly campaigned against same-sex marriage as governor of Massachusetts. While in office as governor, he attempted to cut all funding to groups providing services to LGBT youth, and has since financially supported anti-gay political groups. His recent tax records show that he donated 4 million dollars to the Mormon church which has campaigned against equality nationwide. The glittering phenomenon was sparked by the prior actions of Nick Espinosa, who showered Newt Gingrich with glitter in an act that has inspired numerous other glitter bombings of other presidential hopefuls including Rick Santorum, Michele Bachman, and Tim Pawlenty. The action was organized in part by Espinosa and Egerman, who made national news in a successful glitter bombing of Karl Rove last October. The two have also been involved in organizing protests with Occupy Minneapolis. "We've seen this strategy used time and time again," said Richards. "Republicans are gambling on hateful politics in a desperate attempt to boost turn-out in 2012, without concern for the cost to American families along the way. Thankfully people are waking up to the cost of such hateful policies for our families and children a more tolerant generation rejects the hateful rhetoric of politicians like Mitt Romney" No arrests were made in the action, and more glitter actions are certain to follow. 2 OccupyMN Arrests. Foreclosure Action Ended.
The story that a squad car showed up at the OccupyMn Foreclosure Action, and ran a man over, is being circulated.. while the video shows something a little less serious, the headline is sensational.
The video which is in circulation does not show the entire narrative, so I thought I would post here what I've witnessed.
This narrative perspective is speculation based on video evidence, but I believe it's correct.
I hope someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
There is a fuller video which shows a bit more of the context to the weekends arrests.
It looks to me like the cops showed up to investigate, and arrest a kid, whom had an earlier confrontation with transit police on platform across from Government, er, Peoples Plaza.
In the previous incident, the officers were hassling people to leave the platform if they didn't have train tickets. A young guy attempting to stand up for himself, was indignant with the Transit Cop, basically saying "blah blah blah la la la all I hear is.." then loudly yelling "BULL-SHIT!!". He was not arrested at that time. The scene then turned into a larger confrontation with many squads showing up. (Video follows)
Forward to this weekend. It is not confirmed that it's the same kid, but it looks like him in the video whom the cops showed up to "investigate". Again, please correct me if I'm wrong.. I'm not 100% certain..
They used this to gain entry to the foreclosed/occupied home, then proceeded to clear it out "for safety reasons".
After taking the kid into custody, the departing squad car was blocked by a cross armed guy who refused to move from the street. The driver proceeded to attempt a nudge action and continued driving, pushing the guy about 15 feet down the road before stopping, getting out and performing a frustrated, slightly aggressive arrest.
The Associated Press is reporting that the first kid was arrested for burglary and trespass, while the second one was arrested for obstruction of justice.
The occupiers formed a circle around the house and chanted, as the police left. They saw this as a victory in an attempt to evict them, but really it was this other investigation (..?..?) In any case, Police showed up in force the next day (today), cleared the house and boarded it up. It's a shame. I thought the Occupy Foreclosures idea was a very good one.
End of story, here are the videos I found which give the big picture. In reverse chronology.
This bridge action (Previous post) probably also factored into the whole ambiance of this weekend.

Arrests at OccupyMN Minneapolis. OWS
Over a dozen occupy Minnesota movement representatives chose to be arrested rather then leave the bridge, giving the police an opportunity to practice mass arrest strategies.
Again, FULL RESPECTS to the people, but there would have been no shame in leaving to avoid arrest. I want them to know that. Peace and love to those in jail right now. I know that's more suffering then I would have chosen to go through. But, it's larger then any one person.. Just STAY FREE people! It's a bummer to see you get taken away..
The video ninjas did an excellent job. The peoples movement is unending, never to be defeated. We're all in this together.

Occupy Minnesota Takes an Intersection During Rush Hour
Friday's rush hour sit-in is probably the most aggressive move by the Wall Street protesters in Minneapolis since they occupied the Wells Fargo lobby on Tuesday.
Occupy Minnesota marched down Nicollet Mall on Friday before moving over to 6th Street and Marquette Avenue for a rush hour sit-in. Participants took a seat in the intersection around 4 p.m., chanting “our country!”

Occupy MN Takes Over Government Plaza (Live Video Streaming)
UPDATE 8:30pm. By sundown, it was reported 1800 people had signed the attendance rolls at the welcome booth.

An estimated 3 to 500 people, Mayor R.T. Rybak and former governor Jesse Ventura showed up at Government Plaza near City Hall this morning for the Occupy MN rally. Standing in solidarity with the Occupy Wall Street movement, producing the end to economic inequality and corporate greed globally. The rally attracted all people, young and old.
The Minneapolis Police Department and Hennepin County Sheriff’s Department said they expected the rally to remain peaceful. At their loudest, the crowd could be heard as far away as Nicollet Mall. A festive mood prevailed at the Hennepin County Government Center plaza on a warm fall Friday. Occupy MN plans to stay at “the People’s Plaza” for the foreseeable future, and are well-stocked with food and water to do so. The public’s sentiment appears to be on their side. The rally attracted sympathetic honks from drivers as they passed and encouragement from pedestrians. “I hope they do well out here,” one police officer said “I hope their message is heard.”
